"The only thing constant in life is change." -Heraclitus
It may sound cliche to some but this quote is something that I have been living by since I was an adolescent. Observing my own personal growth, the shifts in my environment, and the way life on Earth itself fluctuates and adapts has always given me assurance that though my life will always change I will always be able to change with it. This notion of transformation and acclimation inspires my photography.
I love to capture life in all its forms, from the raucous to the peaceful, the epic to the mundane, nonetheless, what is most important to me is staying true to the act of capturing art as it unfolds, and not getting wrapped up in creating it. For me its about suspending a point in time. This translates to my documentary style, constantly on the move so that I can be at the right place at the right time to catch that perfect moment.
Capoeira is a subject that best lends itself to my style of photography. The flowing dynamic energy of the Roda and the organic conversations between the players make up the ultimate setting for my photography. My joy of travel is also another outlet for my photography, allowing for candid environmental portraits in geographies out of the norm, and beautiful landscapes in hard to imagine places.
Aside from photography I am also passionate about filmmaking, currently in post-production on the second installment of a documentary series on a Capoeira group from the north-eastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Moreover, I am laying the ground work for a possible third installment of the series, exploring the group's growth in Europe. For a more in-depth look into the world of Capoeira, browse the documentary trailers on the Reel page of the "LABOR" portfolio.
